I wrote another note to my alderman:
Ward 49,
Tell Joe Moore I won’t forget about his vote on handing a blank check
to King Richard and the IOC.
I think that just about sums it up.

Ward 49 Office,
It seems the overwhelming majority of Chicagoans agree with me that we should not pay for this Olympic sized boondoggle. All you need to do is read the Tribune’s latest poll. ”Even a majority of those who favor the Olympics opposed using taxes to cover losses and were against the unlimited guarantee.”

If Alderman Moore votes to approve an unlimited guarantee, he’ll really be sticking his neck out. And voters are willing to put him (at Daley’s side) on the chopping block. I like Alderman Moore. I think he’s doing a good job for our Ward with what he is given by King Richard. I’d hate to see him screw himself with this.
I’ve seen the proposal by Alderman Flores for Olympic oversight that Alderman Moore is in support of. I’d say if the IOC is foolish enough to give us the bid, this proposal does not go far enough in public scrutiny. But it is a good start. MUCH better that the hollow King Richard joke of a proposal.
Sincerely,
Tom Kompare

Follow the link below to send a comment to the IOC and register your disapproval of the Chicago 2016 bid. Unfortunately, this is the only public (internet-based) input the IOC offers.

Londoners will have less “free” speech during the 2012 Games. I wonder if these kind of laws will be made effective for Chicago 2016 too. Don’t think it can’t happen. Protests get shut down all the time here in the States. Remember what happened to protesters in NYC during the RNC convention?

Research proves the Olympics do not inspire persons to take up new sports or become more active.

Just when I thought repression was gaining an upper hand in one of the most educated countries of the so-called Middle East, I read this article in the NY Times.
Maybe the religious leaders are looking at their citizens, and have decided that the current leader is living in the past, and he has no future for Iran.
Good luck, people of Iran. I’m pulling for you.

For those who don’t know the story, all two of my readers, the Chicago Park District wanted to charge for overnight parking in the city lots by Loyola Beach right here in Rogers Park. Parking in our neighborhood is very difficult. We are a very concentrated population.
Needless to say, the plan did not go down very well with myself or my fellow residents. In the end, our Alderman Joe Moore and his office, used some of our Ward’s menu money (ward slush fund) to pay the Park District for lost revenue, and this keeps the parking spots free overnight.
Below is my note to the Ward office and their response.

The New York Times reported today that one in seven Guantanamo detainees rejoin to fight. I have a few comments about this.

This is a note sent Park District Superintendent Timothy Mitchell, timothy.mitchell@chicagoparkdistrict.com, and Park District Board President Gery Chico, gery.chico@chicagoparkdistrict.com, to tell them I oppose the overnight parking charges in Rogers Park.
